This farmhouse was planned on the rear end of a large property primarily used for farming. The clients wanted a home with a large open living space for the entire extended family to come together.
Our design attempts going one step further. The bedrooms too feel like a part of the living space - four prominent visual axes extending from the corners of the living space, through the bedrooms and into a landscaped pocket outside the window.
Thus the axes create direct lines of vision from the verandah right into the landcape outside bedroom windows
A line of sight created through the kitchen - living room - mandir - verandah.
A line of sight created through the verandah - living room - bedroom - landscape.
Clerestory windows allow soft natural light to peneratrate deeper into the large rooms. These help rooms appear brighter without the harsh glare of direct sunlight. In the west facing bedrooms, these cast dramatic shadows across the room during sunset.
