A high density housing was to be planned for the devotees of a religious organization at Vashind. Ninety compact 1bhk units, each not exceeding 350 sq.ft. needed to be accomodated on a long narrow site. The users were predominantly from middle and lower income families. Hence, houses were planned with scope for future expansion - every faimily could add a bedroom to their home as an when the funds become available to them.
The enitire housing was planned with focus on social and interactive aspects of the users lives. Homes were planned as blocks of four units each having a common front yard. These front yards opened onto a common street having eight such blocks on either side.
Each of these common streets lead to the main temple compound.

In order to achive the compact configurations with future expansuon potential, the planning became a bit complex.
Meetings with physical models of the blocks needed to be held in order to convey the design effectively. Users were able to open the model, visualize interior spaces and ask specific questions regarding the construction and materials.
